SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Marianne Hazlehurst Raines of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Richard Mitchell Raines, died Saturday morning, December 5, 2009, at Hospice Savannah.
Born October 6, 1910, she was a daughter of May and Thomas Mortimer Hazlehurst. Mrs. Raines was a life-long Savannahian. She attended Brenau College.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and for many years served as a docent at the Green-Meldrim House. During wartime she volunteered for the American Red Cross. She was a past member of the Junior League of Savannah, the Record Club, and the Froebel Circle; a past member of the Savannah Golf Club, where she played golf for many years. Her enjoyment of bridge, books, movies, her garden, her appreciation of music and her devotion to the arts fulfilled her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, their son, Mortimer Hazlehurst Raines, her parents and her brother, T. M. Hazlehurst, III.
She is survived by her stepson Richard Mitchell Raines, Jr. of London, England, his wife, Felicity and daughter, Jessica, and several cousins. She was faithfully cared for by her friend, Freda Holland.
A graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery on Tuesday at 2 o'clock.
