SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Margaret Hendrix departed this life August 2, 2011 after a short illness. She was 87 and preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John K. Hendrix. They are survived in life by their 4 children, Thomas Hendrix and wife Cindy of Petaluma, California, Stephen Hendrix and wife, Janet, of Savannah, Jeffrey Hendrix of Savannah, and Jane Hendrix Cheatham and husband, Ted, of Charleston, W.V. Also, are five grandchildren, Darren Hendrix, Ryan Hendrix, Emily Cheatham, Douglas Cheatham, and Jacqueline Hendrix.
John and Margaret, originally from Columbus Ohio, married in Savannah, 1943, while John was serving in the Army Air Corps. After the war, the John and Margaret moved to Savannah and raised their family. John Hendrix, a mechanical engineer, worked for Union Camp, eventually moving to New Jersey, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Georgia building plants for the manufacture of plastic bags. John and Margaret retired to Savannah in 1985. Margaret pursued her passions creating fabulous doll houses and accessories, and playing her piano. She also stayed involved with the community as a board member of the Dutch Island Home Owners Association. She will be deeply missed.
The funeral service was held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the graveside, Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by The Reverend James W. Giddens.
