Madie Lee Dickey, 94, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Awendaw, South Carolina. Born January 28, 1928 in Emanuel County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Madie Thelma Rowell Clements and Joseph Scruggs Clements, Sr. She graduated from Oak Park School in 1946 and moved to Brunswick Georgia in the fall of 1946 where she met her future husband, the late Grady Edward Dickey. They were married in 1947 and moved to Savannah, Georgia where she was very active in her church and community. She was a Girl Scout Leader with Girl Scouts of America for many years. She loved helping people and became a Red Cross volunteer for many years at the Hunter Army Airfield Military Hospital. She was an expert seamstress and excellent cook always doing both for all her family. She loved cooking favorite recipes for her family, gardening, crafting and ceramics. She was an active and dedicated member of White Bluff United Methodist Church where she was a friend to everyone and loved by all. She especially loved her Ladies Circle Group, Sunday School and Bible Study Classes. Madie lived in Savannah until 2018 when she moved to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She resided in Somerby Senior Independent Living Community where she made many new friends, was loved by the staff and was known for always having a smile for everyone. She was an avid reader and enjoyed most afternoons sitting and reading. She loved spending weekends with her family in Awendaw South Carolina where she would sit quietly on the back porch for hours enjoying God's wonders.



Madie was a loving wife and mother, proud grandmother of 4 and great grandmother of 4. She adored her family and treasured each visit, card and phone call. She is survived by her two daughters: Donna Dickey Bailey (Richard) of Awendaw South Carolina; Deborah Dickey Connor (Tom) of Bluffton South Carolina. Four grandchildren: Christian Connor (Melissa), Steven Connor (Cherie), Blake Bailey (Gracia) and Ashley Bailey. Four great-grandchildren: Bailey Connor, Aiden Connor, Trip Bailey and George Bailey.



We would like to extend a special thank you to Reverend and Mrs. John Haney and the Bible Study Group at WBUMC for your continuous love and support. Your friendships were invaluable to Mom and our family. You all remained a large part of the wonderful memories she held close and spoke of so often. Also, a special thank you to Crescent Hospice of Charleston for their exceptional and gentle care for Mom and continuous guidance to the family.



A celebration of life will be held at White Bluff United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 1:00PM. Private burial.
