Madeline 'Mat' Ward, 98, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of George Calhoun Ward Sr., died Friday morning, June 8, 2018, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Daisy, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Phillip Tippins and the late Emma Marshburn Tippins. Mrs. Ward was a devoted wife and mother. She supported and encouraged her children in all their scholastic and outside activities. She loved spending time with her family and friends on Daufuskie Island.
She was a resident of Rivers Edge for the last three years. The friends she made there filled her life with happiness.
She is survived by her children, George Ward Jr. (Linda), Janice Clark (Larry), and Susan Griffin (Tommy); grandchildren, Jason Clark, Shannon Galligan (Lt. Col. Casey Galligan), Angela Millhouse (Jason), and Michael Griffin (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Avery Millhouse, Peyton Millhouse, Carsyn Galligan, Camryn Galligan, and Carter Calhoun Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o\'clock Monday morning at the graveside, Hillcrest East Cemetery.
