Lt Col Wylie Britton Griffin, Jr., U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 83, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Betty Rhodes Griffin, died Sunday evening, June 28, 2015, at Marsh View Senior Living.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, he was a son of the Wylie Britton Griffin, Sr. and the late Louise Mabry Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a member of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Richmond Hill. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and was a Past Commander of the 117th Tactical Control Squadron. Mr. Griffin later retired from Chatham Steel after more than 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in his yard and cooking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Jan Northington and her husband, Dan, of Greensboro, Georgia; four sons, Britt Griffin and his wife, Susan, and Lang Griffin, all of Savannah, Robert H. Griffin of Bayonne, New Jersey, and Carr Griffin and his wife, Rene?? of Raleigh, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Martha Moreno of Hendersonville, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. C. Clark Hubbard. Interment will be private.
