Louise Gordon Zacks, 90, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Herman Zacks, died Thursday morning, January 10, 2013, at her home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Max Gordon and the late Flo Slifkin Gordon. Mrs. Zacks was a member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob. During World War II she studied acting with Angela Lansbury, and later worked with Dr. Abram L. Sachar on the founding of Brandeis University in 1948. 'Sister' traveled to Israel and helped during the dangerous early years of the State of Israel in 1949. She worked in banking and department stores before her retirement. Mrs. Zacks was a former president of the Horace Mann School PTA and the Park Avenue Synagogue Sisterhood. In addition to her husband of 45 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Gordon.
Survivors include her son, author Richard G. Zacks and his wife, Kristine Dahl, of Pelham, New York, and two grandchildren, Ziggy Zacks and Georgia Zacks.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o\'clock Friday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
