Lois Roberts Harris Cassell, 99, of Savannah, Georgia, and widow of John Wyatt Harris and James Robert Cassell, died Sunday morning, April 24, 2022, at Azalealand Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born in Macon, Georgia on October 21, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Orvis and Lois Roberts. She was raised in Atlanta Georgia and graduated from Atlanta Girls High School.??Lois met Johnny Harris when he attended Georgia Tech. After they married, they moved to Savannah, where Johnny worked for the Corp of Engineers, until his untimely death in 1974.??They were one of the first homeowners in the subdivision of Wymberley at Isle of Hope. She was a member of the Isle of Hope United Methodist church since 1953 and the first co-chair of the Day on the Island fundraiser at IOHUMC, just to name one of many ways she supported IOHUMC.
In 1978, Lois married Bob Cassell of Baltimore Maryland.??Bob had been a college roommate of Johnny's at Georgia Tech and served as best man when he and Lois were married. They lived at Wilmington Island and enjoyed catching and cooking crab from their dock, as they welcomed family and friends, especially their grandchildren. In the mid 90's they moved back to IOH where Lois lived until moving to Savannah Square in 2011.??She was also a longtime volunteer for Hospice Savannah. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining and was an accomplished seamstress.
In addition to her husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, the Reverend David Templeton, and her sister, Anne Walker.
Surviving are her son, John W. Harris (Toni); her daughter, Margaret 'Maggie' Harris Lee; her brother, Orvis A. 'Buddy' Roberts, Jr. (Evelyn); four grandchildren, Elizabeth Harris (Tom Schaefer), Andrew Harris (Clarissa), Benjamin Lee, and Thomas Lee (Beth Ramey); her brother-in-law, Curtis Walker; her step-son, Richard Cassell (Sharon); four great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning, May 27, 2022, at the graveside, Hillcrest Abbey ' East, conducted by the Reverend Lynn A. Drake and the Reverend Meg B. Procopio.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
