Lise Choquett Swan

d. November 14, 2017

Lise Celine Swan, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2017, at Savannah Hospice in Savannah Georgia.

She was born on April 3, 1939, in Ottawa, Canada, to the Honorable Lionel and Carmen Choquette.

Lise grew up in Ottawa and spent happy summers on Lake St. Pierre de Wakefield, Canada. She was a graduate of Lisgar Collegiate Institute, class of 1957. After high school, she worked for Ottawa Parks & Recreation.

At age 21, Lise joined Eastern Airlines to become a flight attendant. While working out of Atlanta, Georgia, Lise met her future husband, Capt. John G. Swan of Southport. They married in 1963 and were happily married for 54 years.

During their time together both in the military and as civilians, they traveled to and lived in many places around the world. It was then that Lise developed her passion for painting and became an accomplished artist and art teacher.

After Jack's retirement from Allied Signal, Lise became a senior instructor at the Art Museum of Boca Raton.

Upon their final move to Savannah, Lise continued to paint and privately tutor art. Her paintings have been exhibited and collected in Europe, Canada and the U.S. Lise's private collectors cherish her portraits and paintings, and her ability to capture the essence of her subjects was remarkable.

Lise is survived by her spouse, Jack Swan of Savannah, Georgia; her son, Robert Swan of Boulder, Colorado; her daughter, Vicki Jenkins of Cartersville, Georgia; her brother, Claude Choquette of Ottawa, Canada; her sister, Julie Bostdorf of Merced, California; her grandchildren, Ryan Swan of Boulder, Colorado and Elise Hansen of Cartersville, Georgia; and her many nieces and nephews.

Lise was preceded in death by her father, the Honorable Senator Lionel Choquette QC, and mother, Carmen Choquette, as well as her sister Claire and brothers Guy, Jules and Marc Choquette. Though small in stature, Lise was a giant in spirit.

Instead of a funeral, a celebration of Lise's wonderful life will be held in Southport in the near future.
