SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Lillian "Miss Lillie" Hendryx Dowdy, 88, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Maurice Foster Dowdy, died Friday afternoon, January 13, 2012, at Tara at Thunderbolt.
Born in Sylvania, Georgia,"Ditchpond" to the late John Hendryx and the late Emma A. Nelson Hendryx , she was six of seven children. Mrs. Dowdy was retired from Grumman Aircraft Company of Bethpage, New York. She lived many years in New York and returned to Savannah to care for her Aunt, Edith C. Sherman. Mrs. Lillian was a long time member of Saint Phillips AME Church and the Order of The Eastern Star. She was a homemaker, a care provider and a loving and dedicated wife and mother. Mrs. Lillian always held her family together. In addition to her husband, her parents and her sister in-laws she was preceded in death by her son, Maurice H. Dowdy and her daughter, Michele S. Dowdy
Surviving are two sons, Cedric Foster Dowdy and his wife, Sharla, of Wilmington, Delaware and Carlton Larry Dowdy of Savannah, Georgia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many special friends. She will be sadly missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in Magnolia Memorial Gardens - 5532 Silk Hope Rd, Savannah, GA 31405.
