Lester 'Les' Thomas Johnston, 70, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Gaetana 'Gaye' Stabile Johnston, died peacefully Tuesday morning, January 28, 2014, at his home with his wife of 52 years at his side.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Harry Johnston and the late Florence Thompson. Les was a communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Norwich University. Les was a United States Army veteran where he served as a Captain in the Signal Corp and received the Bronze Star. He retired from Backus Cadillac-Pontiac as service manager after 25 years of service. Les was a true gentleman, good husband, good father, and a good man.
Surviving are his wife, Gaetana, their children, Jackie and Randy Ellett, Bridgette and Donald Ruch, Maria and Tru Twedt, Lester and Amy Johnston, and ten grandchildren, Melanie, Brianna, Amy, Matthew, Madalyn, Andrea, Lester III, Carter, Catherine and Davis.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 o'clock Thursday evening at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with a Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock.
The Mass of Christian Burial, with military honors, will be held at 12 noon Friday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Gabriel Cummings. Interment will be private.
