Leonora \"Teeny\" Fulenwider passed away January 24, 2017, in Savannah, Georgia.
Leonora Candler (Atkinson) Fulenwider was born in Savannah, Georgia, June 12, 1920, to the Honorable David Scarlett Atkinson and Catherine (Candler) Atkinson. She made her debut and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1942 with a degree in English. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority. On May 23, 1942, Teeny married Jesse L Fulenwider, Jr. During WWII, the couple was stationed in Los Angeles, California, where Jesse served in the United States Army. During that time, Teeny, with her friend, Catherine Helmkin, wrote and distributed a newsletter, \"Hatched, Matched, and Dispatched\" which connected Savannians active in the war. Teeny also volunteered, along with her sisters, as a spotter for enemy aircraft.
Active in the community, Teeny was a member and president of the Savannah Junior League and member and state secretary of Colonial Dames of America. She served on the boards of Candler hospital, Savannah Country Day School, and The Savannah Home for Girls.
Teeny was a member of St John's Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on the Chancel Society. She founded the \"Pantry Aids\", a ministry which provides home cooked meals to church members in need.
Teeny is survived by daughters, Lynn and her husband, Gene Franke of Dallas, Texas, Carol Elliott of Savannah, Georgia, and Catherine and her husband, Glenn Futrell of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, John Franke, David Franke, Charlotte and husband, Charles Lowenberg; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Austin Lowenberg, all of Dallas, Texas. Teeny had many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Teeny is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L Fulenwider, Jr.; her parents; her brother, David S. Atkinson, who was killed in action during WWII; her sister, Catherine Atkinson Maner of Augusta, Georgia, and her sister, Ann Atkinson Keever of Ennis, Texas.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning, January 27, 2017, at St. John\'s Church conducted by The Reverend Gavin G. Dunbar and The Reverend Craig E. O\'Brien followed by a reception at the Green-Meldrim House. Private interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Marshes of Skidaway and the Oaks for their loving care for Teeny.
