Ammie LaVerne Donald Major, 96, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Harold William Major, died Sunday evening, May 31, 2015, at Spanish Oaks Retreat.



Born in Lena, Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester G. Donald and the late Eva Leona Gilbert Donald. Mrs. Major was a member of Cresthill Baptist Church (now Higher Ground Baptist Church) since 1957, where she was also a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She worked for the F. W. Woolworth Company and later as an elementary teacher at Riley Elementary School.



In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Gene 'Butch' Major, Sr.; a son-in-law, Robert; a sister, Melba Jean Morgan, and a brother, Joel Thomas Donald.



Surviving are one daughter, Donnie Flatt of Visalia, California; four sons, Harold Major and his wife, Yolanda, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Howard Major and his wife, Linda, and Marion Major and his wife, Brenda, and George Major and his wife, Angie, all of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.



The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Dell Belew. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park ' West.
