Laura Moore Angell

d. February 4, 2020

Laura Ann Moore Angell passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2020 surrounded by her children, Haigh Angell, Carlton Angell, Frazier Angell and daughter-in-law Emelie Mckain. Laura was the daughter of the late Pat Moore of Savannah and Dallas, Texas. In addition to her children she is survived by her brother Stephen Moore of San Antonio, Texas.

Laura grew up in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from the University of Illinois, after which she began a career as a buyer for Macy's in Atlanta, Georgia. In the late 80s she accepted a position in Savannah as the director of the American Diabetes Association for the Southeast Region. Laura founded the wildly successful 'Kiss-A-Pig' fundraiser, which raised millions of dollars to find a cure for diabetes.

Laura was an avid runner participating in multiple marathons. Her great love, though, was hiking and camping, especially in the mountains near Linville, North Carolina. She instilled that love in her children who shared many adventures with her and her beloved Spaniel, Callie.

Laura never met a stranger. She graced everyone she met with her beautiful smile, generous heart, and steady stream of conversation. Her friends and family benefited from her unfailing 'can-do' mentality. Her courageous battle against cancer inspired everyone who knew her.

She found her true calling in recent years as the Director of the Youth Ministry at Asbury Memorial Church, where she instilled her love of Christ and service to the community with countless young folks.

A memorial service will be held at Asbury Memorial Church (1008 East Henry Street) at 2pm on Friday the 7th with a reception held directly afterwards. The family encourages everyone to dress in the spirit of celebration. The family is working to create a lasting tribute to Laura by renovating her favorite Appalachian Trail Shelter in her honor, and details will follow on ways to establish that legacy. Remembrances may also be made in Laura's name to Asbury Memorial's Youth Ministry.
