Lawrence Richard Lightsey, seventy-seven, of Pooler, Georgia and husband of Sharon Mullininx Lightsey, passed away Monday afternoon, January 4, 2016, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Robert Cleveland Lightsey and the late Elizabeth Ansley Lightsey. Richard was a member of Skidaway Island Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran and retired as Captain for the State of Alaska Police/Fire/Rescue. He enjoyed his participation as an active member of the Gideons International and the Kairos Prison Ministry.
Surviving are his wife of twenty-six years, Sharon Mullininx Lightsey of Pooler, Georgia; one step-son, C. J. Gallagher; two daughters, Sandy Bruce and Beth Lightsey; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 Friday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 Friday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. James N. Staubes. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Gideon Pallbearers will be Buford Price, Walter Kress, Bob Reavis, David Pence, John Downs, and Richard Priester.
