SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Kertis Ward Elkins, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, widower of Jean Robinson Elkins, passed away Sunday morning, December19, 2010, at the home of his daughter, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Elkins was born in Guyton, Georgia on September 17, 1925. After graduation from Guyton High School, he joined the U. S. Navy and served for three years during World War II. After discharge he returned to Savannah and worked for Savannah Gas Company for 20 years. He then went with Atlantic Envelope Company as a sales representative. After two years in this capacity he was promoted to Sales Manager and moved to the Atlanta area and lived in Marietta, Ga. He retired from AECO Product Division of National Services in 1991. He moved back to Savannah in 2000. Mr. Elkins was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Exchange Club of Savannah and Elks Lodge 183.He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean R. Elkins in 2008.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jimmy Blankenship of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Marie Elkins of McDonough, Georgia; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey - East cemetery.
