Born Jan 6, 1949 to Robert Asa Randall and Francis Geraldine Miller in Macon, Missouri.
Kenneth's Christian roots began with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Macon, Missouri. While living in South Carolina he attended Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock, SC and later in life he attended Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Columbia where he spent some time teaching catechism to the youth of the church.
Kenneth (Ken) graduated from Macon High School and attended college at the University of Missouri and remained a lifelong Mizzou and St Louis Cardinals fan. He left college to enlist in the US Navy in 1967 as a seaman and ship serviceman where he served our country during the Vietnam era. He was stationed on the ship USS McDonough for the majority of his tenure and finished his duty while on the USS Yellowstone. He completed his service and was honorably discharged at the end of Dec 1970 and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal.
It was while docked at the port of Charleston, South Carolina that he met his first wife, Amelia Ann Nipper (Smith)(deceased) and they married and had a daughter, Kimberly Michele Randall (Branch).
One of Ken's services in the Navy included being a barber. When discharged, he further pursued a barbering career and graduated in 1971 from Capital Barber College. He served as secretary/treasurer of Columbia Associated Master Barbers in 1974. In 1979 He served as state chairman of the S.C. Barber Legislative Committee. A registered barber, Ken attended N.E. Missouri Teachers College and has an Associate of Arts degree from Midlands Technical College in Columbia, S.C. and has a S.C. teacher's certificate. This career eventually led him to becoming an Instructor in the early 1970's at the Kenneth Shuler's School of Cosmetology and Hair Design in Columbia, S.C. where he helped with the formation and establishing of the school's program.
Ken and Ann divorced, and he remarried to Deborah Lucille Terry. In 1980 they started their own hair salon and tanning salon business, The Randall's on Woodrow (later to be known as Debi & Co.), located in Irmo, SC.
Ken soon after branched off into a new career in insurance, beginning as a salesman for the Life of Georgia Insurance Co. After a short period of time he joined Adams, Eaddy & Associates to help solicit their clients. It was there that he had his humblest beginnings in insurance with a small staff of 5 that became a close group like family. The opportunity arose to expand his venture into international insurance for Americans living, working and traveling abroad, then returning to the US from time-to-time. At that point in time arranging insurance for this was quite challenging and Ken assisted Mr. Adams in the development of the needed products. Ken continued his work career in the International Division of Adams, Eaddy & Associates which later to become known as Adams & Associates International (A&AI) where he was named its Director of Benefits. Ken was essential in helping the broker business expand into the medical groups needing coverage through carefully developed relationships and partnerships with other insurance companies. He traveled quite extensively to areas like Springfield, Missouri; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Richmond, Virginia; Chicago, Illinois and Colorado Springs, Colorado, which was one of his favorite places. He proudly trained new staff and interns from other countries, making a favorable and positive impact on many young people and their careers.
Ken's long tenure at A&AI allowed the development of some incredible lifelong relationships he valued immensely, one in particular was Al Wallace (Big Al) who spoke encouraging words, scripture and prayers to Ken, even up to his last days alive. Ken served in this role for many years and through the merger with Gallagher in late 2006. A few years later Ken underwent a major surgery and recuperation. He returned to work part-time for a while until deciding it was time to retire. He had dedicated nearly 20 years as the Benefits Director of A&AI & Gallagher.
He continued to live an adventurous and blessed life for 10 more years until his health had declined to a point that he finally moved to Godley, Texas to live with his daughter and son-in-law. Kenneth passed away with his family by his side.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Randall in 2016, and his mother, Francis Geraldine Randall (Miller) in 2011.
Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Michele Randall Branch and son-in-law, Eric D. Branch of Godley, Texas along with two grandchildren, Kyle Alexander Branch of Dallas, Texas and Brittney Colleen Branch-O'Shields (husband, Grant) and great-grandchildren, Anson Walker O'Shields and Rowen Alexander O'Shields of Duncan, South Carolina.
Ken had developed some health conditions and moved to Texas in June 2020 (mid Covid19 era) to live with his daughter and son-in-law to assist him with his deteriorating health needs. It was there that he was able to regain some health and enjoy spending more valuable time with his family. He loved swimming in the pool and spa as it reminded him of his former hobby excursions of scuba diving. He loved the outdoors, nature and the water. In his younger days he fished, and hunted for various birds like quail and duck. He later developed a passion for fly fishing, kayaking, bird watching, gardening, scuba diving and one of his hi-lite adventures, swimming with the manatee. He also loved riding motorcycles and adventured some with friends across the nation.
Ken always had a hobby or two he dived into. In his later days when his health prevented him from doing as much, his hobby became shopping on Amazon. He loved shopping and receiving numerous packages from Amazon. It was like Christmas every day for him.
The family would like to give special thanks to Southwest UT and the Pulmonary Hypertension Specialty Clinic in Dallas, Texas for their amazing gift of health and healing which allowed Mr. Randall to enjoy 9 wonderful months with his family, and to The Veterans Administration Clinic in Fort Worth and the Dallas VA Hospital for their dedication to the health and wellbeing of our nations' veterans. And to the wonderful staff of Care Path of Hospice we thank you for your intuitiveness and response to the needs in his final days.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 14, 2021, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina with the Reverend Eric Branch officiating and assisted by Al Wallace.
