Kenneth Walter Pearl of Savannah died on December 26, 2017.
Ken was born on February 11, 1927 to Walter and Josephine Pearl in Niagara Falls, NY. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School where he was Senior Class President. The Class Secretary was Joan Fielding, who he later married and was his partner until her death earlier in 2017. Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1944 near the end of World War II. Following the war he attended George Williams College in Chicago where he earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree. After college, Ken began his career with the YMCA in Minneapolis. In 1963 Ken and his family moved to New Jersey where he continued his YMCA career at the Orange, NJ 'Y'. In 1967 he was named as the President and CEO of the Summit Area YMCA, a position he held until his retirement in 1989.
Upon his retirement, Ken and Joan moved to The Landings in Savannah, in order to be able to spend time year-around on their boat, North Star. Ken served as a member of the Landings Yacht Club Board of Directors, on the Landings Club Fitness and Dog Park Committees. Ken was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxilliary, holding various staff positions in that organization including Flotilla Commander.
Ken is survived by three sons: David (Mary) of Richmond Hill; Eric (Ophelia) of Rumson, NJ; and Bruce (Patricia) of Springfield, NJ. He had five grandsons: Joshua, Drew (Stephanie), Brian (Lauren), Jack (Rebecca) and Nicholas. He had one granddaughter, Melissa and one great-granddaughter, Eleanor.
A memorial service for Ken will be held at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m.
