Kenneth 'Ken' Ray Oxenrider, 77, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Carolyn Woods Usher Oxenrider, died Thursday morning, October 29, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital.



Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 13, 1943, he was a son of the late Clarence Leroy Oxenrider and the late Clara Mildred Carmichael Oxenrider.



Ken grew up in Walterboro, South Carolina and graduated from Walterboro High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Mount McKinley and U.S.S. Guadalcanal where he served as a radio operator. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Ken became a well-known disc jockey and newscaster in South Carolina, where he went by the name 'Kenny Ray'. He also enjoyed researching family genealogy, and flying radio controlled airplanes. Ken was an avid music lover, he enjoyed everything from classic rock to Beethoven. In later years, he was also the webmaster for U.S.S. Mount McKinley.



In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Christopher Sterling Oxenrider; brothers, Donald, Eugene, and Lee, and stepdaughter, Phyllis Carolyn Russell Bennett.



Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Woods Usher Oxenrider; step-daughter Vivian Colleen Whittal; grandchildren, Carolyn Brannen Bennett and David Alexander Kaplan; great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Marley Crabb; nephew Steffan and his wife Libby Oxenrider and their children, Daegan and Alston; nephew Keith and his wife Floreliz Oxenrider and their son, Donovan; niece Rebecca Oxenrider Rusmussen; sister-in-law, Carol Oxenrider, and grand-niece, Kim Canganelli. Also left to honor his memory are dear friends, Donald and Judy Headden of Charleston, South Carolina and Bobby and Sylvia Dukes of Walterboro, South Carolina.



For the health and safety of family and friends and in accordance with CDC guidelines, the family requests that masks be worn and those attending practice social distancing.



The funeral service will take place at 1 o'clock, Friday, November 6, 2020, at St. John's Episcopal Church' 1 West Macon Street, conducted by Father Gavin G. Dunbar.??



Burial will take place at a later date.
