SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Kathaleen "Jane" Doherty Byrnes, 86, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of George Francis Byrnes III, died Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Aloysius Doherty and the late Margaret Bickler Doherty. Mrs. Byrnes was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a former communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church on Tybee Island, where she helped in the Thrift Store and was a past president of the Women's Club. Mrs. Byrnes was a secretary for Chatham Nursing Home for 16 years. She was a resident of Tybee Island for more than 40 years, where she enjoyed riding bikes and walking on the beach with her husband. Mrs. Byrnes was a member of the Daughters of Ireland, the Best of Friends Lunch Group, and was an avid reader. She was devoted to her family.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathaleen "Kathy" Riner and her husband, H. Bruce Riner, Jr., of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Patrick "Pat" A. Byrnes and his wife, Elaine, and Robert "Bobby" N. Byrnes, all of Savannah, Georgia, and three grandchildren, Henry "Hank" B. Riner III and his wife, Amber, Patrick G. Byrnes and Christopher "Chris" P. Byrnes.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 o'clock Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the rosary service being held at 6:30 in the chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor P. James Costigan. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
