June Alper Arkin, 86, of Savannah, Georgia died peacefully on October 28, 2017. Born on June 25, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Dolly Alper of Chicago and was preceded in death by her brother Melvin Alper of Chicago. She graduated from Teachers College in Chicago with a degree in education, and she was a teacher in the Chicago Public School system for a number of years.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dr. Murray Arkin, and her children; Drs. David and Eva Arkin, Dr. Lawrence and Lisa Arkin, and Mr. Jonathan and Marilyn Arkin. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren; Jordan and Matt Fishman, Jarrett Arkin, Ross Cooper, Stephanie Arkin, Michael Arkin, Jason Arkin, and Adam Arkin.
June was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She instilled the love of education on her children and grandchildren and took pride in all of their many accomplishments. She worked tirelessly for Hadassah, and she was awarded the Myrtle Wreath Lifetime Achievement Award for her leadership and service to Hadassah. The family would also like to thank the nurses and attendants at Buckingham South for years of their loving care.
The funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock noon Monday at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
