Judith 'Judy' Frances Walker, 75, passed away in her home on Thursday, April 20, 2017, after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 1, 1941 in Savannah, GA she is preceded in death by her parents, C. M., Sr. and Frances Leona (Burke) German and her grandparents, William Leon Burke, Sr. and Grace Burke Knight.
An active member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, she had an abiding faith in God and Jesus as her friend and savior. Her family was the pride and joy of her life. Judy was a devoted wife, mother and nana. She showered her family and especially her eight grandchildren with love by making them special quilts to mark milestones in life, sewing all Halloween costumes, sharing books and preparing special recipes for her family and friends. Judy could also be found in the garden cultivating beautiful flowers and plants.
She was a homemaker and caretaker to her children in the early part of her life. In her professional career, Judy served as an administrative assistant at the South Carolina Department of Corrections and later in the Department of International Studies at The University of South Carolina, which was highlighted by a role in assisting with the visit of Pope John Paul II to Columbia and USC. Following her career, she came back home to Savannah where she was an active member of the Daughters of Ireland.
Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Judy is survived by her husband, William 'Billy' Royal Walker; her children, Daniel Youngner, Jr., Lisa Faulkenberry (Ernie), Lori Sargent (Lee), Stephen Youngner (Sara); her step-daughter, Angela (Walker) Marcoux; eight grandchildren, Nate, Ashley, Abby, Ava, Emilee, Megan, Josh and Logan, and her brother, C. M. German, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 23, 2017, at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue with the rosary being held at 4 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 o'clock Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist ' 222 East Harris Street. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of a wake, a celebration of Judy's life will take place on a future date.
