Joyce Williams Owen, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 10, 2022, surrounded by her family and wrapped in a blanket made from her late husband\'s shirts.
Joyce was born on April 30, 1938 to Elmer and Mary Williams in Jarrett, Virginia. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family above all, never failed to speak her mind, and took great pride in being thrifty. Being a lifelong diabetic and a sixteen-year kidney transplant recipient, she was grateful for every day she was blessed with. She married her husband, Glenn, in 1961 and was a devoted partner throughout their 59 years of marriage, traveling across the world for his career. After his retirement, Joyce and Glenn settled in Montgomery, Alabama where she made lifelong friends. In her last year of life, she moved to Savannah, Georgia to be closer to her daughter and her family. Her Christian faith guided her throughout her life on earth and on her final journey home.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Britt (Wade); her three granddaughters, Amelia, Claire, and Kate Britt; her sister, Alice Hughes, her brother-in-law Ben Owen (Judy), sister-in-law Vivian Dunn, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on August 6 in Jarrett, Virginia at the Owen family cemetery.
