Josephine Havens Gibson, 93, entered into eternal rest, at the home of her daughter, Esma Campbell, in Savannah, Georgia, Saturday morning, December 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Josephine, more commonly known as 'Jo', or even Mama Jo, was born June 3, 1925 in Rocky Gap, Virginia to the late Myrtle Hudson Havens and Cecil Washington Isaac Havens. She was preceded in death by her late husband and love of her life for fifty one years, Clayton Monroe Gibson, truly a love story from the Greatest Generation. She was also preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Sharyn D. Gibson in 2008. Jo and Clayton were totally devoted to their daughters, Sharyn and Esma.
In addition, Josephine was preceded in death by three siblings, Dorothy Havens Prazecky, Donald Franklin Havens and John Saunders Carroll.
Those left to cherish, honor and keep her memory alive are her daughter Esma Gibson Campbell and her husband, Guy; two grandsons, Justin Samuel Strode and Brian Gibson Strode and his fianc??e, Morgan, and children, Chloe, Connor, Collin, and Caroline Josephine Strode, her great-granddaughter who was named after Josephine; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Grzybowski and her husband, Paul, and children, Hannah and Emily. Josephine loved her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law dearly, and many nieces and nephews. Josephine was eternally devoted to her family. She enjoyed life to the fullest, especially when she was with her children and grandchildren. She was always gracious and appreciative.
Josephine was a graduate Beaver High School, Bluefield, West Virginia. She enjoyed being a homemaker and her chocolate cake and fudge were favorites of everyone who had the good fortune to taste them. She loved sewing, quilting, and embroidery. She retired from Hill's Department Store in 1988 as manager of the Domestics Department.
Josephine was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at White Bluff United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Josh Duckworth and the Reverend John Haney. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia.
