Joseph William Reed

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Joseph "Joe" William Reed, 81, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Betty Wingard Reed, died peacefully at home Wednesday evening, August 15, 2012, after a hard fought battle with mesothelioma.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he grew up around Troupe Square. Mr. Reed attended Cathedral Day School, Richard Arnold Jr. High School and Commercial High School. He was raised by and preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances R. Shea. Mr. Reed was a United States Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was an electrician with Union Camp for 43 years. Mr. Reed loved camping and was an avid Georgia Tech fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Betty Wingard Reed; three daughters, Angie Major and her husband, George, Debbie Beall and her husband, Mark, and Tammy Reed, all of Savannah, Georgia; seven grandchildren, George "Bo" Major, Jr. and his wife, Laura, Becky Major, Jennifer Romain and her husband, Joshua, Stephen Beall, Trey Hancock and his wife, Donna, Haley Herrington and Hannah Herrington, and one great-granddaughter, Holly Hancock.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by The Reverend Samuel W. Watkins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bud Robertson and Dr. Tim Dougherty for their compassionate care during his illness.
