Joseph Douglas Agonofski

Joseph Douglas Agonofski, known as 'Mr. A' to many Savannah students now in their 20's and 30's, died at home with his little dog Phoebe by his side.
Joe loved the work he performed, be it teaching in the classroom or guiding students along the trails of Oatland Island. Even in retirement, Joe would receive calls from past students in distress seeking his words of support.
As an artist, Joe created beauty and mystery in in his paintings. Oils and water colors were his favorite media and he would often work and rework his art for weeks until his message was spoken through its colors, shadows and textures.
Joe was a proud son of Savannah and regularly regaled his friends with tales of the revival of the Historic District and the 'truth' about the many characters of those early days. He never said no to a request to share these tales just one more time.
He is survived by the family of his sister Ann Stumpf of Savannah and the family of Tony Agonofski, deceased, also of Savannah. He is already missed by his dear friends and especially the children and grandchildren of his closest friends who knew him lovingly as 'Uncle Joe'.
A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2015, at 4 o'clock at Thompson Park, directly across the street from the Thunderbolt Town Hall. Family and friends are invited to remember Joe and to toast his life. Guests are asked to gather approximately 20 minutes prior to the memorial and are invited to gather afterwards to share a meal and stories of our beloved friend.
