Jonathan 'John' Pate Shores, 72, of Savannah, Georgia, and husband of Tanya Williams Shores, died Thursday morning, March 31, 2022, at Candler Select Specialty Hospital.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Avery Cornelius Shores, Sr. and the late Dorothy Eleen Lumston Shores. John was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Mike Hill Sunday School Class. He was a United States Army veteran, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter M-14 and Expert M-16 badges. John retired from Allstate as a Senior Claims Advisor in 2018. He enjoyed classic cars, camping, and traveling to the mountains. John's greatest passion was his love for his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Avery Shores and Jack Shores.
Surviving are his wife, Tanya Williams Shores; three sons, Daniel 'Dan' Shores and his wife, Deana, John Benjamin 'Ben' Shores, and Eric Shores and his wife, Torie; five grandchildren, Hannah Shores, Ian Shores, Jacob Shores, Jillian Shores, and Zach Shores; one brother, Jim Shores and his wife, Tammy, and nieces and nephews including Tracy Shores, Thomas Shores, Christopher Shores, and Trenity Shores.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Monday evening, April 4, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service, with military honors, will be at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 5, 2022, at Southside Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Jon Humphreys. Interment will be private.
