SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - John 'Jack' Patrick White, Jr., 90, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Jewel Hoffman White, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 25, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.



Born August 8, 1922, in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late John Patrick White, Sr. and Mary Conneff White. Jack was raised in Sacred Heart Parish and graduated from Sacred Heart School and Benedictine Military School, Class of 1940.



In 1942, he joined the United States Army and was assigned to the 99th Infantry Division and remained with this division in the European Theatre of Operations until the end of hostilities. During this time, he participated in several battles, most notably the Battle of the Ardennes (Bulge). As a result of this campaign, Jack received a battlefield commission as a Second Lieutenant.



In 1961, Jack became a founding member of the Bill Moore Supply Company and retired in 1998 as owner and President.



Jack was elected a member of The Hibernian Society in 1976. He served on the Board of Stewards for four years, twice as chairman, as Secretary for three years, and then as Vice President. Jack was elected as the fifty-first President of the Society in 1988.



Jack was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Sinn Fein Society of Savannah.



In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne White Eaton, and two sisters, Mary Patricia White Price and Ann White Holland.



Surviving are four daughters, Angela White Kohel of Tybee Island, Georgia, Patti White Autry and her husband, William, of Savannah, Georgia, Margaret White Voyles of Savannah, Georgia, and Laura White Hipp and her husband, Dan, of Roswell, Georgia; one son, John Patrick White III and his wife, Lisa, of Savannah, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Edward White of Savannah, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with the rosary service being held at 7 o'clock at the church.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor P. James Costigan. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.



Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.



Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Hibernian Society of Savannah, Georgia.
