John Lawrence Whelpley III, 57, of Savannah, Georgia, died Tuesday evening, June 18, 2013, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation.
Born at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of the late John L. Whelpley, Jr. and the late Marilyn Ada Crowley Whelpley. John was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was a brick mason.
Survivors include his sister, Judey R. Kressly and her husband, Joseph, of Easton, Pennsylvania; niece, Savannah Lynn DiLauro; nephew, Wyatt Dylan DiLauro and his friend, Sylvia.
The memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Drew Corbett. His remains will then be scattered at sea by members of the United States Coast Guard ' Station Tybee.
