John Stephen Gettinger

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA  - John Stephen Gettinger, 50, of Savannah, Georgia, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012, at his home.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of Ann Rogers Gettinger and the late Senior Master Sergeant James Edward Gettinger. John was a member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church. He was in the Special Olympics and won 7 Gold and 2 Bronze medals. John was with the Ambucs Bowling League and won numerous trophies, including high series with high score of 211. He was an Angel sent from God and the true love of his family's life. Everyone in Savannah knew John and he was an Angel to everyone. God took His angel home but he will always be with us.
John's famous words to people he came in contact with. Whether he knew them or they were complete strangers, "Are you ready?" "Do you know Jesus is coming?" Our hearts will never be the same!
Surviving are his mother, Ann Rogers Gettinger of Savannah; his two sisters, his oldest Jamie White and her husband, Steven, and his youngest sister Ruby Gettinger, all of Savannah; one brother, Clyde Gettinger and his wife, Brenda, of Savannah; one niece, Karen White; one nephew, James "Jim" Gettinger; his God-sisters, Georgia Thompson and Brenda Arnold Collins; his God-brother, Jeff Parsons; his aunt Georgette Alexander, his cousin Paul Alexander and his son, Wyatt; and numerous other cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Saturday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Robert H. Dimmitt and The Reverend Everett Tarver, Jr.  Interment will be in Greenwich section of Bonaventure.
John will be missed every second of every day, even though we know he is in heaven. Tears will be shed every second for him. The family would like to express their most heartfelt thanks to the following physicians and caregivers: Dr. Steven Corse, Shana Standard, Maxine Sussman & their entire office staff for giving our John and family comfort beyond measure, Candler Transportation Team, Dr. Mark Murphy, and Dr. Robert King. Also, to Wayne Noah and his dedicated staff, all of Southside Fire Department and a thank you to our loving church families at Ferguson Avenue Baptist and First Freewill Baptist. A thank you to Kevin Sheehan at the Ambucs Bowling League. A special thank you to Ed Gamble for your love and support. We will forever be grateful to you all.
