John Robert Beebe, 87, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Doris Lineberry Beebe, died Thursday evening, June 13, 2013 at his home.



Born in Springfield, Georgia, he was the eighth of twelve children born to the late Robbie Lee and Cassie Beebe.??He worked on the family farm prior to joining the United States Navy at the age of eighteen in December of 1943. He was honorably discharged and earned the American Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal. Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. During his service overseas, he corresponded with a young woman he was introduced to by photograph and who he would eventually marry when he returned to the states. John and Doris celebrated sixty-two years of marriage prior to her death ten months ago. Mr. Beebe retired from Union Camp after forty-two years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended Bible Baptist Church. He was a proud member of Local 388 where he served as Vice President. He was also a volunteer with the Trinity United Methodist Youth Group and the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Beebe was well known for his delicious southern cooking and sharing his home grown vegetables with family and friends. John enjoyed fishing and crabbing. He loved his family and spending time with them on family vacations every summer at Tybrisa.. His family was the most important thing in his life especially his eight grandchildren.



Surviving are two daughters, Annette B. Hayman and her husband, Lester, of Savannah, Georgia, and Nicolette B. Smith of Pooler, Georgia; three sons, John Robert 'Bobby' Beebe II, Jeffrey Gray Beebe and his wife, Deborah, and Terry Beebe and his wife, Lisa, all of Savannah, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Angela Folkers and her husband, Daniel, Melissa Beebe, Jeffrey G. Beebe II, Katie Beebe, Amanda Edge and her husband, Michael, Leslie Beebe, Jessica Hayman and Cody Smith; five siblings, Alfred Beebe, Ollie B. Milne, Christine B. Carter, Neil B. Bradham and Caroline B. Williams



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Dr. Herbert F. Hubbard. ??Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey ' West.
