Joan Pearl of Savannah died January 15, 2017 at Hospice Savannah after a short illness.



Joan was born on December 7, 1926 to Harry and Amy Fielding in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Seven years later the family moved to Niagara Falls, NY. Joan graduated from Niagara Falls High School where she met her future husband, Kenneth Pearl. The couple was married in December, 1947.



Over the many years of their marriage, Joan and Ken lived in Chicago, Minneapolis, Maplewood, NJ and Summit, NJ before retiring to The Landings on Skidaway Island in 1989. She was employed as a school secretary and secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in New Jersey. They spent many summer days on their boats named North Star, cruising up and down the East Coast of the United States.



Joan volunteered for seventeen years with the Auxiliary at St. Joseph's Hospital, including one term as the group's president. She was a volunteer docent at Davenport House. Joan served on the Landings Flea Market Committee for several years and chaired that event.



Joan is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Ken; her sister, Margaret of Fayetteville, NY. Joan and Ken had three sons: David (Mary) of Richmond Hill, Eric (Ophelia) of Rumson, NJ, and Bruce (Patricia) of Springfield, NJ. The couple has five grandsons: Joshua, Drew (Stephanie), Brian (Lauren), Jack (Rebecca), and Nicholas. They also have one granddaughter, Melissa.



The memorial service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, January 28, 2017, at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend James W. Giddens. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.



In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Savannah or your favorite charity in Joan's memory will be greatly appreciated by the family.
