Jerrell Varn Clanton, 90, passed away at home under the care of Hospice Savannah on Thursday, August 5, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Audrey and Troy Clanton, Sr., his brother, Troy Clanton, Jr., and a grandson Jack Terrell Courie III.
Jerrell was a devoted and loving husband to Betty for nearly 70 years. Their love fostered a beautiful family who Jerrell adored, including 3 daughters, a son, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Savannah, Jerrell was a graduate of Savannah High School and Armstrong College and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He retired from Builder\'s Transport as terminal manager and worked after retirement at First Chatham Bank.
A man of strong faith, Jerrell was a loyal member of First Christian Church for 73 years, where he served as chairman of?? the trustees, the deacons and the elders and?? as chairman of various other committees. In his later years, he enjoyed attending First Baptist Church of the Islands.
Jerrell is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Creech Clanton; a brother, Don M. Clanton (Nancy); daughters, Diane Mitchell (Randy), Debra Glaize (Jim), Donna Keeran (George); son, Jerrell Mark Clanton (Angie); grandchildren, Jason Courie, Stephanie King (Kent), Holley Kent (John), Jamie Keeran (Michaela), Ashley Barras (Chris), Matthew Coleman, Justin Barras, and Hunter Barras; great-grandchildren, Carolyn, Brittany, Brooke, Isabella, Brendan, Miles, Taylor, Abbey, Landon and Tyler, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were all very special to him.
Jerrell could light up a room with his laughter and possessed a smile that was infectious. A compassionate and generous man, he went out of his way to show kindness to others. Jerrell will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
The family wants to thank the staff from Hospice Savannah, Liz, Pat, and Renee for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to Hospice Savannah or First Baptist Church of the Islands.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will follow at 12:30 Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
