A good man died today.'
Jerald Cohen, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 31, 2018, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Savannah on April 30, 1929, the son of Nathan Cohen and Rebecca Chernoff Cohen. Jerald was raised and lived in Alma, Georgia until retirement to Savannah in 1997. He was a UGA graduate and served in the United States Army before retiring to Alma where, alongside his wife and later his son, Mark, ran the family business, Cohen's of Alma.
He married Carole Jackson Cohen in 1959. They lived a wonderful life and raised their four sons with 'a village' of close family and wonderful friends.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children and grandchildren: Mark and Laure Cohen and their children, Bram, Grant, Leah and Nathan, Dr. Scott Cohen and Lisa Podem and their children, Gena Ashley and Ben, Lee and Edye Cohen and their children, Megan and Linsey, and Reece and Caren Cohen and their children, Jackson and Dylan; his brothers, Ronnie and Mary Cohen, Steve Cohen and his wife, Betty, and Jan and Carole Jackson; his very close 'sister/cousin,' Jane Fryer, and too many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors to mention.
His family sends a special 'thank you' to his many wonderful caregivers.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Sunday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Stephen B. Henkin.
