Jeanette Douglas Blackwelder, 95, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Clarence Poe Blackwelder, Sr. passed away Thursday evening, April 16, 2015, at her residence.
Born in Savannah, Georgia on May 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John R. Douglas and the late Oieda Norris Douglas. Mrs. Blackwelder was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church where she attended the Wylly-Dupon Sunday School Class. She was a member of the choir at the church for many years and later joined the senior adult choir. Mrs. Blackwelder served as head hostess for the church for many years and participated in many of the dinner plays by making costumes, acting, singing and dancing. She was a member of the Eastern Star Martha-Mary Lodge 288 and was a Lady Shriner. She was head of the polling station at Isle of Hope Elementary School during elections.
Surviving are her two daughters, Frances Bedgood and her husband, Glenn, of Savannah and Catherine Parker of Savannah; her three sons, Clarence Poe Blackwelder, Jr. and his wife, Sherrill, of Savannah, Garry Blackwelder and his wife, Sharon, of Atlanta, and Alan Blackwelder and his wife, Laura, of Savannah; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church -412 Parkersburg Road - conducted by The Reverend Bill Bergstrom. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery
