Jean Southwell Sims

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Dorothy Jean Southwell Sims, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of William Franklin Southwell and SSGT Leland Wallace Sims, U. S. Army (Ret.), died Wednesday morning, May 26, 2010, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Kinston, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Parrott Mewborn and the late Zilphia Grady Mewborn. She moved with her family to Savannah in 1929. Jean retired from Union Camp after many years of service.
Jean was always very active in Bull Street Baptist Church serving in the church nursery, choir, Sunday school class and social activities. She loved her extended family dearly and always maintained close ties with those in North Carolina and spread throughout the country. Her extensive circle of friends and family will remember her as fun loving and social. Jean made friends wherever she went.
In addition to her parents and two sisters, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 38 years, William Franklin Southwell, and her second husband of 5 years, SSGT Leland Wallace Sims, U. S. Army (Ret.).
Surviving are her sister, Edna Crews of Florida, eleven nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Sandy Enfinger.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 o'clock Saturday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Earnie T. Pirkle, The Reverend R. Calvin Fowler III and The Reverend William E. Gardner. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East.
