Janice M. Proper, 80, of Savannah, Georgia, died Friday morning, April 14, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.



Janice was born in Binghamton, NY on August 25, 1936 to the late Fred Arnold and the late Marguerite Gage Arnold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B Proper, her mother-in-law Marie Horton Proper, and her sister Helen Devereux.



She is survived by 3 daughters, Beckie (Jeff) Hilderbrand, Midway, Teresa (Chuck) Ries and Jackie (David) Dyal both of Savannah. Her sister Minnie Jean (Freddy) Rollins, Guyton, Her Brother Eugene Arnold, New Jersey, Brother-in-law Leon (Marian) Proper of Savannah. 6 Grandchildren, Elizabeth (Will) VonWaldner, Emily (Larry) Rowley, Charles 'Chuckie' Ries, Nicholas 'Nick' Ries, David 'DJ' (Cheyenne) Dyal, and Shane Dyal, 5 Great Grandchildren, Patrick, Noah, Kaitlyn, and Isaac VonWaldner, Jackson Rowley and many nieces and nephews. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was simply known as Granny.



Janice graduated from Camden County High School in Woodbine, Georgia and later moved to Savannah where she met and married Jack April 2, 1957. She was a radiology technician for 51 years. Janice worked in the children's' Clinic at the Chatham County Health Department for 25 years. She then work for Savannah Diagnostics for 26 years where every patient was her favorite at both places. She was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church and the Chatham County Christian Women's Club where being the table hostess for their monthly meetings was the highlight of her month. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and was the best 'Granny' in the world.



The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the Chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Diabetes Association.
