James Vernon Syms, 61, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Kathleen Rountree Syms, died Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015, at his home.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Maurice Francis Syms and the late Ruby Lee Newman. Vernon owned and operated Syms Trucking. He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Copeland and Irma Syms, and two brothers, Frank Syms and Lawrence Syms.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Kathleen 'Kathy' Rountree Syms of Savannah, Georgia; three sons, James Channing Syms and his wife, Teresa, of Boise, Idaho, Alexander 'Alex' Syms, U. S. Navy, who is stationed in Bremerton, Washington, and Destry Syms and his wife, Ashley, of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Beverly Houser and her husband, Rick, of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Kary and her husband, Bill, of Wilton, North Dakota, Debra Sue Burke and her husband, Tommy, of Guyton, Georgia, and Edna Newman of Bismarck, North Dakota, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Travis B. Cowart, Sr. Interment will be private.
