James Watson 'J. W.' Jackson, 85, of Guyton, Georgia and widower of Henrietta (Dona) Hightower Jackson, died Wednesday evening, June 1, 2016, at his home and surrounded by his family.



Born in Bartow, Georgia, he was a son of the late Thomas Watson Jackson and the late Addie Ruth Odum Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a lifelong member of Living Faith Church of God. He was a retired iron worker from Local 709 and worked for Stafford Industrial Contractors. Mr. Jackson was a volunteer lieutenant and First Responder with the Port Wentworth Fire Department from 1985 until 2006. In 1995 he was named Citizen of the Year for the City of Port Wentworth and in 2011 the City of Port Wentworth dedicated Fire Station #1 in his honor. While living in Port Wentworth he also served many years on the Board of Appeals. Mr. Jackson was an avid farmer and was a former member of the Chatham County Mounted Patrol.



In addition to his wife of sixty two years and his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis 'Bones' Dewain Jackson, and two brothers, Hershel Jackson and Frank Jackson.



Surviving are three sons, James E. Jackson, Sr. and his wife, Kay, Michael E. Jackson, Sr. and his wife, Jean, and William G. 'Greg' Jackson and his wife, Carolyn, all of Guyton, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Whitfield of Stillmore, Georgia and Mary Ann Barcelona of Houston, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o\'clock Sunday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o\'clock Monday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Gordon B. Dukes. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
