James Lester Grier, 89, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Jeanette Ruth Jackson Grier, died Monday afternoon, June 20, 2017, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
Born in Blakely, Georgia, he was a son of the late Joseph Lester Grier and the late Jeanette Tomlin Grier. Mr. Grier was a United States Navy veteran. He was a retired restoration carpenter.
In addition to his wife of 64 years and his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra 'Sandy' Coyle; a niece whom he reared for many years, Paula Jackson, and a brother, Tom Grier.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheree Lott and her husband, Dave, of Savannah, Georgia; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Margaret Dugger of Savannah, Georgia; two brothers, Robert Grier of Pooler, Georgia and Fred Grier and his wife, Liz, of Savannah, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 Saturday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the graveside, Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Jerry Warren.
