James Samuel 'Jimmy' Goethe, Jr., 86, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Mary Ellen Wilson Goethe, died Saturday evening, December 19, 2015, at Hospice Savannah.
A son of the late James S. and Mabel J. Goethe, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple for over 55 years. At Calvary, he served as a Sunday School teacher, usher and greeter. Mr. Goethe was employed by Karp Motors for 39 years. During his lifetime, he was active in the Savannah Jaycees, the Moose Lodge and the Shriners, where he served as president of the Alee Greeters and was a past president of the Southeastern Greeters Association.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Nathaniel E. Fries, and his longtime companion, Barbara J. Glover.
He is survived by a daughter, E. Diane Rivenbark; two sons, James S. Goethe III (Cheryl) and N. Edward Goethe (Cindy Creed); his brother, T. Everett Goethe (Judith); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. James N. Staubes. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey - East.
Pallbearers will be Christopher J. Goethe, Patrick J. Goethe, C. J. Shaffer, Darold Senn, Chris Reel, and Franklin Senn.
