Jack Wayne Robinson, PhD, 85, of Tucson, Arizona passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday evening, October 29, 2019, at Savannah Commons.
Born in Franklin, Indiana, he was a son of the late Earl B. Robinson and the late Velma Madge Phillips Robinson. At the age of 10, they moved to Tucson, Arizona. He was a member of the Tucson Arizona Boys' Choir, sang with the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company and most frequently in church. Jack was a lifelong Methodist.
He worked with the telephone company before being drafted into the Army. After leaving the Army, Jack attended the University of Arizona earning his degree in teaching; the University of Hawaii where he earned his Master's; and returned to the University of Arizona where he earned his PhD in teaching. He taught elementary school for 32 years. Recreationally he refereed youth soccer games. He was a teacher at heart and was well liked by the kids and parents for his effort to teach the players how to improve their game. He was a referee up until he was 70 years old.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Bernita Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Karen Beth Van Lenten Robinson, of Savannah, Georgia; daughter, Jennifer Kent, of Tucson, Arizona; son, Jeremy Robinson, of San Diego, California; stepdaughter, Daria Miller (Kevin) of Savannah, Georgia; stepson, Joseph Mazar of Orlando, Florida; brother, James Robinson (Yume) of Chandler, Arizona; four grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held at White Bluff United Methodist Church - 11911 White Bluff Road, at 11 o'clock Saturday, November 9, 2019, conducted by the Reverend Josh Duckworth and the Reverend Thomas E. Keller.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus ' 5770 East Pima Street, Tucson, Arizona 85712-5610 or St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital ' 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
