J Richard Henry, Jr., age 56, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 28. It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of Richard after a long illness. He was born in Swainsboro, Georgia on March 21, 1958 and later moved with his family to Statesboro where he attended school, graduating from Statesboro High School in 1976. He attended Georgia Southern College, graduating in 1980 with a BBA in accounting degree. After working with Price Waterhouse for nine years in Atlanta and Savannah, becoming a Certified Public Accountant, he became a founding partner of Holland, Henry and Bromley, LLP.
He was a member of The Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Georgia Society of CPA's, and a former member of the Kiwanis Club.
Richard served on the advisory board of The Sun Trust Bank, the Advisory Council for the School of Accountancy in the College of Business of Georgia Southern University and The Savannah Technical College Foundation.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a longtime member of the Dorchester Hunting Club. In 2008 Richard and JR traveled to Argentina to hunt doves and in 2011, he flew to the Siberian wilderness to fly fish for Salmon. He also made several trips to Alaska to fly fish.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jane Fouts Henry; his sons, Jack Richard Henry III (JR) and Jared Coleman Henry, and his daughter, Jordan Elizabeth Henry, all of Savannah; His parents, Jack and Dorothy Henry, his sister, Sharon and brother-in-law, Jamie Manley, all of Statesboro, and nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Friday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend S. Michael Ricker. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family requests that remembrances be sent to University of Arkansas Medical School Anomaly Research Foundation - 4301 West Markham, 543, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.
