SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Irving Howard Shumway III, of Savannah, Georgia, died Saturday evening, June 23, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Irving Howard Shumway, Jr. Howard was of the Baptist faith. He attended Virginia Tech and later graduated from Georgia Southern University. Howard was employed by the Savannah Morning News. He was an avid outdoorsman. Howard was excellent at cooking and landscaping.
Surviving are two sisters, Robin S. Rupprecht and her husband, Richard, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Susan S. Dixon and her husband, J. J., of Savannah, Georgia; two nephews, Jeffery Channing Dixon and his wife, Anne, of Pooler, Georgia, and Stephen Matthew Dixon and his wife, Allyson, of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great-nieces, Macie Elizabeth Dixon and Madyson Brianne Dixon, and numerous cousins. He and his family considered Chris, Alisha, Devon, Christopher and Emily Olding as his second family.
Howard donated his body to medical science for research. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
