SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Irving Lipkowitz, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Sarah Haysman Lipkowitz, died Thursday afternoon, December 16, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Isaac and the late Sarah Lipkowitz. Mr. Lipkowitz was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim and retired from Carnation Seafood, a subsidiary of Spring Mills. Prior to entering the service, Mr. Lipkowitz played minor league baseball with the New York Yankees farm team. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Coast Guard at Pearl Harbor on the USS Van Buren, patrolling the waters of the South Pacific. Mr. Lipkowitz was awarded three medals for his service. He was an avid golfer, devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Abe and Seymour Lipkowitz.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Haysman Lipkowitz of Savannah,; one son, Eric L. Lipkowitz, of Houston, Texas; one daughter Ilene L. Nedelman and her husband, Stephen of Nashville, Tennessee; brother Elliott Lipkowitz of Parsippany, New Jersey; and two granddaughters, Samantha Erin Nedelman of Houston, Texas and Jamie Rene Nedelman of Washington, D.C.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
