Ira James 'Tim' Ryan, Jr., 90 of Savannah, GA died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.



Tim, also affectionately called 'Buddy' by his family, grew up in the Old Fort neighborhood of Savannah and attended Cathedral Day School and Church, Marist and Commercial High.



He was activated in August of 1950 with Dog Company, 10th Infantry Battalion, United States Marine Corps Reserve, and served in Korea, including the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. Tim was a member of the American Legion Posts #184 and #135.



Tim retired from Kaiser Chemical and was a partner in Abel and Ryan Construction Company. He was a founding member of the Fenian Society, serving as their Marshal in 2016. He was a longtime member of the Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and was a member of the Marine Corps League of Savannah.



His life of integrity remains a testament to his faith. He was a 45 year communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Tim made a promise to himself that if he survived his time in Korea, he would forever remain a faithful servant. A promise he kept until his last day.



Tim was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist spending many happy times bow hunting on Blackbeard, Wassaw and Sapelo Islands and crabbing and shrimping along the Moon River. He was a volunteer for the USFWS and was instrumental in building the rookery at Harris Neck, creating a habitat for Wood Storks.



He was a member of the Mossy Oak Gun Club at HAAF where he continued to shoot skeet on a weekly basis until his recent illness.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mary Ryan; sister, Ann Walsh; brother, William Ryan, and son-in-law, David Silverman



Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary McDonald Ryan, his children Michael Ryan (Laura), Angela Thomas (Craig), Meg Crider (Robert), Eileen Ogletree (Jim), and Andrea Silverman. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Tommy Nease (Jutta), Chris Nease (Melissa Miceli), Steven Thomas, Katie Marlin (Quentin), Dr. Caroline Crider (Kirk Long), Dr. Bobby Crider (Mary), Elizabeth Ogletree McCabe (Samuel), Emma Ogletree, James Ogletree, Hannah Silverman (Robert Byrd), Sam Silverman; great-grandsons, Till and Finn Nease; sister, Marie Dillon; brother, Joe Ryan (Honey), and nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary at 6:30 in the chapel.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning, May 4, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Daniel F. Firmin, JCL, VG officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Catholic Cemetery.



The family would like to thank THA Home Health and GHC Hospice for their unfailing care during Tim's final days.
