Ida Slotin Wilensky, 100, passed away April 26, 2013. Mrs. Wilensky was born September 5, 1912, the daughter of the late Morris and Elizabeth Slotin.?? She graduated from Savannah High School with honors and continued her education at the University of Illinois, graduating Phi Beta Kappa.



Through her vitality, strength, and leadership, she served as president of the local Savannah Hadassah Chapter from 1942-44, as president of the Southeast Region of Hadassah, and served as a member on the national Board of Hadassah. She was instrumental in the birth of the Savannah Jewish Council, now the Savannah Jewish Federation, and was a lifelong member of the Jewish Educational Alliance and BB Jacob Synagogue.



While her husband, 'Brother' Joseph Wilensky served in WW II, she ran their dress shop Joseph's on Broughton Street and continued for many years after.



She was predeceased by her husband and her son, Samuel. She is survived by her brother Leon Slotin; her daughter-in-law Kathy Wilensky; her grandchildren Mark Wilensky (Lauren) and Lena Wilensky (Jay Pozner); three great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.



The family wants to thank Hospice of Savannah, Dawn Darley, Skye Cossio, and the following caretakers for their loving kindness: Aleathia Chaney, Virginia Glenn, Mary Newton, Sallie Ann Robinson, and Delores Simmons.



Graveside services will be led by Rabbi Jeffrey Gordon at 2pm, Sunday, April 28th at Bonaventure Cemetery. Shiva will be held at the home of Aaron and Dayle Levy on Sunday through Friday from 1-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm.
