Ib Raae, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, former husband of Mary Bullock Demere, died Thursday morning, February 1, 2018.
Born in Helsingnor, Denmark February 17, 1933, he was the son of the late Richard Juel Hanson Raae and the late Eleanor Frida Palmer. He is preceded in death by his two siblings Bent Raae and Lykke Raae. Mr. Raae was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, North Carolina where he sang in the choir for many years. He also attended St. John\'s Church, Savannah, and was a member of The Oglethorpe Club in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Raae was an avid writer and wrote a book of poems titled \"Colors of My Life\" and a short autobiography titled \"Liberty Banished\". He also enjoyed golfing and swimming.
He lived through WWII in Bergen, Norway where he was a member of the youth group, the Buekorps and then later he moved to Oslo, Norway. When he was seventeen, he moved to Canada where he worked as a logger, a ski instructor, and worked in real estate. While on vacation he met his first wife Shirley Claudette Joseph from Dominica, a small island in the Caribbean. They returned to Sudbury, Canada where they had two children, Tiffany and Curtis. They later returned to Norway where Mr. Raae worked for his brother\'s company, Kronborg, which is famous for making liver pate. Upon retirement they returned to Dominica. After his wife\'s death, he moved to Florida, and then to Highlands, North Carolina where he met his next wife Mary Demere and moved to Savannah, Georgia. They were married for a short time but remained close friends.
Surviving are his daughter, Tiffany Raae Gange; son-in-law, Michael Gange, and grandson, Orion Gange, all of Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia; and his son, Curtis Raae and grandson, Yjan live in Oakville, Canada.
A private service was held Friday, February 16, 2018, at The Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin at St. John\'s Church, Savannah. His ashes will be buried at his family gravesite in Oslo, Norway.
