Hilda Wainwright Cope passed away on March 25, 2014, following a brief illness.?? A native of Savannah, Mrs. Cope was the daughter of the late Henry Norwood Wainwright and Gussie Weeks Wainwright.?? After completing her studies, she enjoyed a promising career at C&S Bank, but gladly chose to end it upon saying, 'Yes' to her sailor boy, Leroy Cope, Jr.?? They were married in a quiet, autumn ceremony at Epworth Methodist Church following the end of World War II.
Mrs. Cope was predeceased by her husband and daughter, Andrea Cope Goolsby.?? She is survived by her devoted sons, Edmond L. Cope, III of Savannah and Greg Cope of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, along with grandchildren Allison Bernal (Andres), Darryn Goolsby, and?? precious great grandson, Luca.
A loving daughter, wife, and mother, Mrs. Cope was active at Cokesbury United Methodist Church and later, White Bluff United Methodist Church.?? She served as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout Brownie troop leader, and was known for her charm and gracious entertaining.?? All were made to feel welcome while visiting the family home.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o\'clock Thursday evening at??Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o\'clock Friday afternoon at the graveside,??Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by The??Reverend??Enoch L. Hendry of Trinity United Methodist Church, who is also a close family friend.
Mrs. Cope dearly loved the Lord.?? Now the angels in heaven are rejoicing and singing more sweetly for one of their own has come home.
