Herbert 'Herbie' Blumenthal, 92, a native of Savannah, died peacefully at home on September 11th surrounded by his loving family.



He was born December 11th, 1920 to Rose (Slifkin) and Harry Blumenthal. The youngest of four children, he was predeceased by his sisters Yetta Cohen and Betty Cantor of Savannah and his brother, Saul Blumenthal of Atlanta.



He had a long and full life as a family man and cherished his wife of 67 years, Esther (April) Blumenthal, and his?? children Harvey (Susan Goldberg) Blumenthal of Potomac Md., Sarah (Jerald) Gottlieb of Savannah and Debbie (William) Schrag of New Rochelle, New York. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Laura Blumenthal (Seth) Tobin, Joseph (Leah Ginsburg) Gottlieb, Michelle Blumenthal and (Daniel Abramowitz), Rebecca Gottlieb (Abie) Sutton, Elliot Schrag, Rebecca Schrag and Suzanne Schrag.



He was a graduate of Armstrong State College before serving in the US Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Blumenthal took over the B & B Loan Company after his father\'s death at the age of 15. In 1946 he established the B & B Paint Company and ran the businesses for over 50 years until his retirement in 1988. He was known for his irrepressible wit and humor as noted in his popular business commercial, \"Right Herb -- Yeah!!\"?? Mr. Blumenthal was a pillar of the Savannah Jewish community. He was a founding member of the Savannah Hebrew Day School and former president of the school. He was a lifelong active member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob serving in various leadership positions. His favorite passions included time spent boating and fishing with his family and friends.



In his later years Mr. Blumenthal cherished his association with his devoted aides: Barbara Davis, Adrian Jones, Sandra Overstreet, Tammy and Mona Moultrie, Sherry Johnston and Mildred Young.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.



Shiva will be observed at 207 McLaws Street Thursday September 12th and conclude Friday, September 13th at midday.
