Herb Sanders, 94, of Savannah died peacefully on January 27th after a brief illness. He was the husband of Sally Rotkow Sanders.
Herb was born on October 12, 1927, in the Bronx, New York to Irving and Estelle Sanders. He graduated from Rutgers University and served in four branches of the U.S. military.
Herb had a long career in various retail businesses culminating in his co-ownership, with Sally, of the former Marlin\'s Store for Homes in the Habersham Shopping Center. After closing the store in the early 1990s, he enjoyed another career as a travel agent. Herb was a member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob and the Jewish Educational Alliance. He was a long-time volunteer as a fundraiser for the Savannah Jewish Federation and delivering for Meals on Wheels.
Few things gave Herb more pleasure than sharing a good joke or story with family and friends, to whom he was devoted.
In addition to his wife Sally, Herb is survived by their blended family including children Ilene (Michael) Prater, Mark (Lynne) Levine, and Lynn Levine; grandchildren Andrew Prater, Matthew Prater, Melissa (Eli) Shalom, William Levine, Brett (Paige) Levine and Marissa Levine; great-grandchildren Moriah Shalom and Elliot Levine. He was predeceased by his son, Craig Sanders and wife, Elaine Segal Sanders.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the graveside at Bonaventure Cemetery, Rabbi Jeffrey Gordon officiating. It may be viewed online, see the Gamble Funeral Service website for a link.
